About Blackhawk TaeKwonDo in Carpentersville.
Family First. Traditional Training. Standards That Mean Something.
Blackhawk TaeKwonDo opened in May 2012 with a clear purpose: put students and families first, teach traditional TaeKwonDo with substance, and make sure every rank represents real development.
A Martial Arts School Built Around the Student.
Blackhawk was created around a simple belief: martial arts training should be about the student first. Families should understand what the school stands for, students should know what is expected of them, and promotions should reflect meaningful progress rather than simply time spent in class.
Our curriculum is rooted in traditional TaeKwonDo and shaped by decades of training, competition, teaching and practical application. Classes are structured, but they are not cold. Students can enjoy training, build friendships and have fun without lowering the standards that make martial arts valuable.
Blackhawk is owned and personally taught by Grandmaster Anthony Iannone and Master Cristina Iannone. Both are U.S. Army veterans, and both are on the floor teaching students rather than handing the school off to a rotating group of outside instructors.

Training Should Have a Purpose Beyond the Belt.
Student and Family First
The school exists to serve students and families. Decisions about training begin with what helps students learn, grow and succeed.
Rank Is Earned
Belts are milestones, not participation awards. Students progress when their effort, technique, attitude and readiness support the next step.
Traditional and Practical
Students learn traditional TaeKwonDo while also understanding balance, distance, timing, control and responsible practical application.
Age Specific Training
Young children, older kids, teens and adults have different needs. Blackhawk structures classes around the student instead of putting everyone into one experience.
The People Who Set the Standards Are the People Teaching the Classes.
One of Blackhawk’s defining differences is consistency. Grandmaster Anthony and Master Cristina personally teach the classes and remain directly involved in student development.
That means the same people who shape the curriculum, uphold the school’s standards and decide when progress has been earned are also the people correcting technique, encouraging students and getting to know how each person learns.
Their backgrounds are different but complementary, and together they bring decades of TaeKwonDo, competition, military service, instruction and continued study to the school.
Confidence Without Arrogance. Skill With Responsibility.
We want students to become capable, disciplined and confident while understanding that martial arts skill carries responsibility. The goal is not simply to perform techniques. It is to develop the judgment and self control to know when and how those skills should be used.
TaeKwonDo Tenets. Army Core Values. One Standard.
At Blackhawk, the five traditional Tenets of TaeKwonDo and the seven U.S. Army Core Values both help shape the way we train, teach and lead. One set comes from the martial art and the other from military service, but together they reinforce the same expectations: character, responsibility, discipline and doing what is right even when it is difficult.
Values That Reinforce How We Teach and Lead.
Because Blackhawk is owned and led by U.S. Army veterans, the Army Core Values are also part of our culture. They do not replace the Tenets of TaeKwonDo. They reinforce them and help define the standard we expect from ourselves and our students.
Separate Programs Because Different Ages Need Different Training.
Blackhawk does not treat a preschooler, a teenager and an adult as if they need the same class. Each program is structured around the age, maturity and goals of the students training in it.
The Best Way to Understand the School Is to Train Here.
A website can explain the philosophy, but the One Week Trial lets you experience the instruction, standards and culture firsthand.
