Kids & Teen Taekwondo in Carpentersville
At Blackhawk TaeKwonDo, kids and teens do more than learn kicks and self defense. They train in a structured environment that develops discipline, respect, confidence, focus, fitness and the ability to keep going when something is difficult.
It’s a Way of Life.
One of the strongest messages on this page has always been that martial arts should help a child beyond the training floor. Our Kids & Teen Taekwondo classes are designed to support habits that carry into school, home and everyday life while still giving students a challenging, active and enjoyable place to train.
Focus
Students practice listening, following instruction, staying present during drills and finishing what they start.
Discipline
Progress requires repetition, practice, preparation and a willingness to keep working when a skill is difficult.
Confidence
Confidence grows from earned accomplishment. Students see themselves improving because of their own effort.

Training That Supports Better Habits Everywhere.
Parents often come to martial arts looking for help with focus, confidence, respect or discipline. Taekwondo is not a shortcut and it does not replace parenting or school. What it does provide is a consistent environment where students practice listening, accepting correction, working toward goals and being responsible for their own effort.
Those habits can carry into homework, classrooms, chores, friendships and the way students respond when life does not go exactly their way.
We do not use a generic third party character program. The lessons come from the training itself, the expectations of the dojang and the example set by the Masters.
It’s the Will. Not the Skill.
Your child does not need to arrive athletic, coordinated or confident. Students begin at different levels. What matters is the willingness to learn, accept correction, practice and keep showing up. Strength, coordination, technique and confidence are developed through training.
Where Black Belts Are Earned, Never Given.
We do not rush students through ranks. A belt should represent what a student has learned, how they train and the effort they have consistently demonstrated.
- Traditional kicking, striking, blocking and stances
- Forms and technical development
- Controlled partner work and sparring development
- Practical self defense application
- Goal setting and rank progression
- Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit

Strong Bodies. Strong Minds. Stronger Habits.
At Blackhawk TaeKwonDo, we focus on the whole student. The goal is not simply to create a better kicker. It is to help kids and teens develop skills, habits and confidence that can serve them at home, at school and throughout life.

Self Defense Is Part of the Curriculum, Not a Marketing Phrase.
Students learn how the techniques they practice in class relate to awareness, distance, control and real world application. The purpose is not to create aggressive students. The purpose is to develop capable students who understand that physical skills come with responsibility.
They learn that the best outcome is often avoiding a problem, using good judgment and maintaining control. When physical skills are necessary, students should understand why, when and how those skills are used responsibly.
A Zero Pressure Way to See if Blackhawk Is the Right Fit.
Our One Week Trial gives your child a chance to experience the school before you make a longer commitment, and it gives us a chance to get to know your child too.
-
Start at the Beginning of the Week
Whenever possible, we prefer new students to begin on Monday instead of entering in the middle of the week. It gives them a more complete experience and helps begin a consistent routine.
-
A Student Mentor Welcomes Them
Children are partnered with a student mentor who helps them understand what is happening, gives them someone familiar to follow and helps them feel comfortable throughout class.
-
Parents Can Watch Comfortably
Our Parent Lounge and Visitor Lounge are designed for observing class and give families a comfortable place to watch and connect with other parents.
-
Fit Matters Both Ways
The trial lets your family see whether the culture, expectations and training feel right while giving the Masters an opportunity to make sure Blackhawk is the right environment for the student.
Your Child Trains Directly With the Masters.
Every Kids & Teen class at Blackhawk TaeKwonDo is personally taught by Grandmaster Anthony Iannone and Master Cristina Iannone. Students are not handed off to a rotating staff of instructors.
That continuity matters. The same Masters see how your child trains, where they are improving, where they need correction and when they are ready for the next challenge.

Kids & Teen Taekwondo FAQs
Answers to common questions parents ask before their child starts Taekwondo at Blackhawk.
Does my child need to be athletic?
No. Students begin with different levels of coordination, fitness and confidence. Martial arts is an individual journey inside a group class, so students can improve at their own pace without feeling like they are letting a team down.
Will martial arts make my child aggressive?
Our emphasis is control, respect and responsibility. Students learn physical skills, but they also learn when not to use them. The goal is confidence without aggression.
My child struggles with focus. Can Taekwondo help?
Taekwondo gives students repeated opportunities to practice listening, following directions, completing drills and returning their attention to the task in front of them. Every child is different, and martial arts is not a medical treatment, but the structure of training can support the development of stronger focus habits.
Can parents watch?
Yes. Blackhawk TaeKwonDo has a dedicated Parent Lounge and Visitor Lounge where parents can comfortably watch class and socialize with other families. For a child’s trial class, a parent or guardian should remain at the school for the entire class.
What should my child wear to the first class?
A T shirt and comfortable athletic pants are ideal, along with a water bottle. Please do not wear shorts, tank tops, yoga pants, leggings, low cut tops or clothing that is revealing, excessively tight or inappropriate for a family training environment. A Taekwondo uniform is not required for the first class.
How quickly will my child earn belts?
There is no responsible fixed timeline. Rank depends on training consistency, effort, technical progress, maturity and readiness. At Blackhawk, belts are earned rather than given on a calendar.
How do we start?
Begin with our One Week Trial. Whenever possible, we start new students on Monday and pair children with a student mentor so they have someone welcoming and familiar to follow during class.
