Little Hawks Preschool Taekwondo in Carpentersville
Little Hawks gives young children an active, structured introduction to traditional Taekwondo while helping them practice listening, coordination, confidence, respect, focus and self control in an age appropriate environment.
It’s a Way of Life, Even at This Age.
Young children can have fun while learning habits that matter beyond class. Little Hawks uses traditional Taekwondo, age appropriate movement and clear expectations to give children repeated opportunities to listen, participate, try again and grow.
Listening & Focus
Short instructions, repetition and simple class routines give children practice paying attention and responding to direction.
Coordination & Balance
Kicking, stepping, stances and movement games help children build body awareness and foundational motor skills.
Confidence & Respect
Children practice trying new things, speaking clearly, showing courtesy and taking pride in progress they earn.

Build Motor Skills While Learning to Train With Others.
One of the strongest ideas in the Little Hawks program is that young children need opportunities to move, coordinate their bodies and learn how to participate in a group. Training gives them a place to practice all three at the same time.
Students work on balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and basic Taekwondo movement while also learning how to wait for a turn, follow a group direction, work beside other children and become more comfortable interacting with classmates.
- Balance and body awareness
- Hand and foot coordination
- Listening and responding
- Taking turns and sharing space
- Building comfort in a group setting
Action, Games and Structure With a Purpose.
Young children learn differently than older kids and adults. Little Hawks classes use shorter activities, clear demonstrations, repetition and age appropriate games to keep students engaged while reinforcing the habits we want them to develop.
The fun is real, but it is not random. A listening game practices attention. A balance drill develops coordination. A partner activity can reinforce patience, control and social skills. Children may simply feel like they are having fun while parents can see the purpose behind the activity.
- Simple techniques taught in manageable steps
- Consistent routines and clear expectations
- Positive correction without lowering standards
- Practice with patience, effort and self control
- A foundation for continued traditional Taekwondo training

It’s the Will. Not the Skill.
Your child does not need to arrive coordinated, confident or experienced. Little Hawks meets young students where they are and gives them opportunities to learn, practice and improve. At this age, willingness to participate, listen and keep trying matters far more than arriving with a particular skill level.
Small Lessons That Build Into Bigger Habits.
The goal is not simply to teach a young child a kick. It is to use traditional Taekwondo training to help develop a more capable, confident and engaged student over time.
Respect
Courtesy toward the Masters, classmates, parents and themselves is part of the class routine.
Social Skills
Children practice participating in a group, communicating and becoming more comfortable with classmates.
Focus
Activities give students repeated chances to listen, watch, follow directions and return attention to the task.
Community
Children and parents become part of a school where families support one another and celebrate progress.
Confidence
Confidence develops as children accomplish things that once felt unfamiliar or difficult.
Mentorship
Students receive direct guidance from the Masters and positive examples from more experienced students.
Discipline
Children practice routines, self control, persistence and the idea that improvement takes repeated effort.
Fun & Fitness
Active classes help build coordination, movement skills and fitness while keeping young students engaged.

Practice the Skills Young Children Use Everywhere.
Little Hawks gives children repeated opportunities to make eye contact, listen for instructions, follow a sequence, wait until it is their turn and bring their attention back when it wanders.
Every child develops differently, and Taekwondo is not a medical treatment. What structured training can provide is a consistent place to practice focus, concentration, transitions and self control in a positive group environment.
Those habits can support the same kinds of skills children use at home, at school and in other activities.
A Comfortable, Zero Pressure Way to Experience Little Hawks.
Our One Week Trial gives your child a chance to experience the program before you make a longer commitment, and it gives us a chance to get to know your child too.
-
Start at the Beginning of the Week
Whenever possible, we prefer new students to begin on Monday. Starting at the beginning of the week gives them a more complete experience and helps establish a routine.
-
A Student Mentor Welcomes Them
New children are paired with a student mentor who helps them understand what is happening and gives them someone welcoming and familiar to follow.
-
Parents Stay for the Trial Class
A parent or guardian should remain at the school for the entire trial class. Our Parent Lounge and Visitor Lounge provides a comfortable place to watch.
-
Fit Matters Both Ways
The trial lets your family experience our culture and expectations while giving the Masters an opportunity to make sure Little Hawks is the right environment for the student.
Before Your First Little Hawks Class
- Arrive about 10 minutes early so your child has time to get comfortable.
- Wear a T shirt and comfortable athletic pants. A uniform is not required for the first class.
- Bring a water bottle.
- A parent or guardian should remain at the school for the entire trial class.
- Little Hawks students must be fully potty trained and able to attend without diapers or pull ups.
Your Little Hawk Trains Directly With the Masters.
Every Little Hawks class at Blackhawk TaeKwonDo is personally taught by Grandmaster Anthony Iannone and Master Cristina Iannone. Young students are not handed off to a rotating staff of instructors.
That continuity is especially valuable with younger children. The same Masters learn each child’s personality, recognize where they are improving, know where they need more guidance and can help them become more comfortable with the expectations of class.

Little Hawks Preschool Taekwondo FAQs
Answers to common questions parents ask before their child starts Little Hawks at Blackhawk TaeKwonDo.
Does my child need martial arts experience?
No. Little Hawks is designed so beginners can learn the fundamentals one step at a time. Children do not need to know how to kick, punch, bow or understand Taekwondo terminology before their first class.
What if my child is shy or has trouble focusing?
That is common with young children. Little Hawks gives students repeated opportunities to participate, listen, follow directions and become more comfortable with the class routine over time. Every child develops at a different pace.
Will martial arts make my child aggressive?
Our emphasis is respect, control and responsible behavior. Children learn physical skills along with clear expectations about when not to use them. The goal is confidence and self control, not aggression.
What should my child wear to the first class?
A T shirt and comfortable athletic pants are ideal, along with a water bottle. Please do not wear shorts, tank tops, yoga pants, leggings, low cut tops or clothing that is revealing, excessively tight or inappropriate for a family training environment. A Taekwondo uniform is not required for the first class.
Does my child need to be fully potty trained?
Yes. Children participating in Little Hawks must be fully potty trained and able to attend class without diapers or pull ups. If your child is not there yet, we are happy to have you contact us again when they are ready.
Can parents watch?
Yes. Blackhawk TaeKwonDo has a dedicated Parent Lounge and Visitor Lounge where parents can comfortably watch class and connect with other families. A parent or guardian should remain at the school for the entire trial class.
My child is not very athletic. Will they feel left out?
No previous athletic ability is required. Little Hawks students work on their own progress inside a group class. Coordination, balance, strength and confidence develop over time through practice.
Can Little Hawks help a child practice better focus?
Little Hawks gives children repeated opportunities to practice listening, following directions, transitions and returning attention to the activity in front of them. Every child is different, and Taekwondo is not medical treatment, but structured training can support the development of stronger focus habits.
How do we start?
