Adult Classes Built Around Adult Goals.
Adult training at Blackhawk TaeKwonDo is not an add on to the children’s program. Adults have dedicated classes designed around the reasons adults actually begin martial arts: getting stronger, moving better, learning practical skills, reducing everyday stress, challenging themselves and doing something meaningful for their own development.
You do not need previous martial arts experience, exceptional flexibility or a certain fitness level before you begin. Training starts with fundamentals and develops progressively as your technique, conditioning and confidence improve.
Strength and Conditioning
Kicking, stance work, combinations and drills challenge the legs, core and upper body while building cardiovascular conditioning through movement.
Mobility and Control
Traditional Taekwondo develops balance, coordination, body awareness and controlled range of motion as technique improves.
Practical Self Defense
Students learn how distance, timing, awareness, movement and controlled technique apply beyond memorizing a pattern or performing a kick.

There Is a Difference Between Exercising and Training.
A workout can make you tired. Training gives you something to build on.
In adult Taekwondo, each class connects to the next. You learn a technique, practice it, refine it and gradually add more complexity. Conditioning improves while you are learning an actual skill, and the progress becomes measurable in ways that go beyond a number on a scale.
- Develop stronger fundamentals and technique
- Improve balance, coordination and body control
- Build conditioning through purposeful movement
- Learn forms, striking, kicking and partner work
- Practice focus, discipline and controlled effort
- Train alongside adults working toward their own goals
Where Black Belts Are Earned. Never Given.
You Do Not Have to Get in Shape Before You Start.
One of the most common reasons adults put off martial arts is the belief that they should become fitter or more flexible first. That is not necessary. Adults begin at different ages, fitness levels and levels of experience.
Grandmaster Anthony Iannone and Master Cristina Iannone personally teach the adult classes and can help students understand the fundamentals before adding speed, power or complexity. The objective is not to keep up with someone who has trained for years. The objective is to improve from where you are today.
- Start with fundamentals rather than being thrown into advanced material
- Build strength, stamina and mobility progressively
- Learn technique before trying to add power or speed
- Ask questions directly to the Masters teaching your class
- Measure progress against your own previous ability

What You Can Build Through Consistent Taekwondo Training.
Technique
Develop stances, kicks, strikes, blocks, forms and partner drills through repetition and correction.
Confidence
Confidence grows from doing difficult things, learning what your body can do and seeing your ability improve over time.
Focus
Training requires your attention. For the length of class, work, phones and daily distractions are not the priority.
Community
Train with adults who want to improve without the ego driven atmosphere that can make some training environments intimidating.
You Train Directly With the Masters Who Own the School.
At Blackhawk TaeKwonDo, adult students are not handed off to rotating instructors. Grandmaster Anthony Iannone and Master Cristina Iannone personally teach the classes they lead at the Carpentersville school.
That consistency matters. The same people who set the standards, shape the curriculum and understand the culture of the school are the people watching your technique and helping you improve.
Blackhawk is veteran owned, family first and rooted in traditional Taekwondo. The environment is welcoming, but expectations still matter. Progress is earned through effort, consistency and continued development.
Your First Adult Taekwondo Class Does Not Need to Be Intimidating.
The One Week Trial is designed to give you a real look at the school, the instruction and the training before you decide whether Blackhawk is the right fit.

Adult Taekwondo FAQs
Am I too old to start Taekwondo?
Adults begin martial arts at many different ages. You do not need to have started as a child. Training begins from your current ability level and develops progressively. If you have an injury, medical restriction or concern about exercise, discuss it with your healthcare professional and let the Masters know before class so they understand any limitations you need to follow.
Do I need martial arts experience?
No. Previous martial arts experience is not required. Beginners start with fundamentals and are taught step by step. You are not expected to keep up with someone who has already been training for years.
Do adults train with children?
No. Blackhawk TaeKwonDo has separate adult classes because adults and children have different goals, learning styles and training needs. Adult classes focus on adult level instruction, technique, conditioning, mobility, practical self defense and personal development.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
No. You do not need to get in shape first. Training is designed to help you improve as you go. Start at the level you can safely handle today and build conditioning, mobility and skill through consistent practice.
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable, modest clothing that allows you to move freely. A T shirt and athletic pants are ideal. For safety and respect in the dojang, please do not wear shorts, tank tops, yoga pants, leggings, low cut tops or other clothing that is revealing, excessively tight or inappropriate for a family training environment. Bring a water bottle. A Taekwondo uniform is not required for your first class.
How does the One Week Adult Taekwondo Trial work?
